This year’s Web-Kon will feature stories from two long-time GHGA members, Elfriede Stiene Stonitsch and Anita Roschitz Schumann.

Elfriede Stiene Stonitsch, past GHGA President, was born in the resettlement area to a Gottscheer father, whose family owned a vineyard, and a Slovenian mother.  Ellie will touch on her personal memories and experiences before and after her arrival in the US in 1950, as well as what her parents experienced.

Anita’s presentation will cover two topics. “One Family, One Name, Many Spellings” uses the evolution of her family name over time, geography, and language as an example to consider in family research.  “The Roschitz Family – From Gottschee to Kansas City” follows her family’s emigration story from Gottschee to Kansas City, Kansas.

Join fellow members for the annual business meeting.  The agenda includes updates on GHGA activities, financial report and approval of the 2026-27 budget.

The Parish Community of Nesseltal, Gottschee: Its Villages, People, Churches and Priests by Rev. August Schauer, is now in print.

Translated by GHGA members and edited by Max Mische, Rev. Schauer writes the history of the parish, current events, and descriptions of villages within the parish. Included are individual names, including the names of men who died in WW I.  Schauer describes the varied aspects of the spiritual and cultural life of Nesseltal parish between the World Wars.

The GHGA 2025 Annual Conference will take place on Saturday with this years theme being “Zusammenkommen: Coming Together”. We have some exciting presentations about the Gottscheer settlers in the Kansas City area, a brief history of Gottschee and much more about your ancestry.  After we enjoy lunch, we will have our annual member meeting starting at 1pm where we will discuss reports of actions taken by the board of directors; election of officers and directors; and presentation of financial reports and proposed budget. All current GHGA members are encouraged to attend.  Our evening event will start with social hour, dinner and accordion music and songs.

Conference/dinner registration deadline: June 1, 2025 –

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of our great board members John B. Gladitsch. John joined the GHGA Board of Directors in 2003 and served on the board until his passing. Through out his years on the board he contributed with his many photographs and videos of Gottscheer events, his liaison between European clubs, and with his translation of many articles. John’s zest for life and his amazing personality will be missed and we send condolences to his family. Please read his obituary for more information.
