If you have never been to Slovenia you really must go. The beauty of the country, the hospitality of the people and not to mention the amazing food, is worth experiencing at least once in a lifetime.
The 2022 Tour of Slovenia took place in August and the group started in beautiful Klagenfurt, Austria! While in Austria the group celebrated with wonderful meals of goulash and apple strudel, they joined in the Klagenfurt festival and then attended mass in Graz at the beautiful church with so many friendly people! AndI hear they even met the Mayor!!
Driving through the Karavanken Alps on the way to Slovenia, the tour stopped at two beautiful lakes and had a coffee break in the town of Kranjske Gora and then arrived safely in Ljubljana. Once in the beautiful town of Ljubljana, the capitol of Slovenia, they enjoyed a nice boat tour and even went up to the castle that sits high above the city with amazing views! From Ljubljana, the tour was able to make a day trip to the famous Lake Bled! If you have not been there, it’s a must! One of the most beautiful places on the earth! And the food…….AMAZING!!!
The group then made their way to Gottscheer city where they enjoyed the church, apricot filled donuts and then had a wonderful lunch at Altsiedler Verein which is a group preserving the Gottscheer history! While in the city, the group met the mayor of Gottschee city who has Gottschee heritage! He is running for President of Slovenia and we hear he had a good chance of winning. Some of his relatives are on the tour, so it was a very exciting day! He even served traditional cookies!
Many other locations were visited from Baza 20 the partisan hideout in Horn Wald, to a former Carthusian Monastery that is now a museum and Brezice castle, in the Brezice area where the Gottscheers went during the resettlement in 1941. Then of course finished it off with another amazing dinner at the Mokrice castle! One thing is for sure, you will not go hungry on this trip!
